Hit by a Bike... and Lived!
the totally true tale of a tragically klutzy girl
You would think I would know better. But no. I am, well, kind of, um, well, a, er, a... klutz. In case you wanted to know. I’ve tripped over people, cracks in the sidewalk, music stands, tree roots, nothing at all, various cords (I mean, why are they there anyway?!), and a long list of other objects and things. I’ve run smack into people, trees (yea, that was today), trash cans, screen doors (they’re clear, so how are you supposed to know they’re there?), and plenty of life’s other obstacles. You get the point. But that still doesn’t justify getting run over by a bike. Oops. I was walking home from school on an average February day – sunny, with a nice stack of science homework waiting for me at home. When I got home, I was probably just going to snack and go on the computer and fall half-asleep – nothing out of the norm. I was only expecting to walk home with my backpack sticking to my back, maybe wave to a few friends. I didn’t even make it very far. Only across the street from the school, and before I knew it, my face was flat on the ground. Squish. Ow. The background noise of gasps and giggles and whoas and “I’m so sorry!”s kind of faded away. In fact, I may have stayed there, a big lump on the ground, for a minute or so. The guy on the bike apologized profusely and pedaled off, his helmet not even buckled (I still don’t get why guys do that... explain, will ya?). Of course, I eventually grabbed someone’s hand and limped to the sidewalk, one leg not functioning quite right. Don’t worry; I didn’t break my leg or anything. There is no punch line – I got ran over by a bike one day after school. That’s a little insight into my clumsy life. (Insert cute little smiley face.) :-P
